St. Martin: Culture and Cuisine in the Caribbean

April 24th, 2013

It had been over 10 years since my last visit to St. Martin, so I was excited to see what this Caribbean gem held in store for my return trip.  I’d forgotten how special the island really is! St. Martin has it all - gorgeous beaches, amazing cuisine, excellent shopping, friendly people, and a cultural diversity unlike anywhere else in the Caribbean due to its split sovereignty.

The island is half French and half Dutch, and each side has a wonderfully different feel to it. Patisseries and beach cafes are plentiful, as are the many different languages you’ll hear spoken by the locals and visitors who come here from all over the world.

Baie Longue, St. Martin

I stayed at La Samanna, both an Orient Express and Virtuoso property, which is also the only luxury hotel on the island. If you love boutique properties with a traditional Caribbean vibe, then this is a place you should visit. The grounds, rooms, food and staff were truly fantastic, and the setting above Baie Longue is magnificent.

La Samanna  is comprised of 83 rooms and 8 recently added villas that rival any villa product I’ve seen elsewhere in this part of the world. To say the villas are stunning is an understatement, and the fact that each one comes with its own dedicated butler and full hotel amenities only sweetens the deal.

A good portion of the rooms at La Samanna have been recently renovated, as have most of the common areas. The redesigned lobby and bar offer a breath-taking view of Baie Longue, St. Martin’s most beautiful beach and home to La Samanna.

I stayed in a One-Bedroom Ocean View Suite directly on the beach. La Samanna is one of just a handful of Caribbean hotels with a section of rooms that are situated literally steps from the sand.  I find it to be the ultimate luxury to open your door and walk right on the beach. Not even flip flops required to get there!

My husband and I spent our days either lounging on Baie Lounge or taking our small rental car to explore another part of the island.  A visit to St. Martin wouldn’t be complete without a day on famous Orient Beach, so we were sure not to miss it. This particular stretch of sand is known best for its beautiful water, lively beachfront bars, memorable people watching, and many active water pursuits, including parasailing and kiteboarding to name a few.

St. Martin is well known throughout the Caribbean for its great food. Grand Case is the capital of the island’s dining scene, and we enjoyed some lovely French food there. I would be remiss if I didn’t mention the The Sunset Beach Bar by the airport.  We stopped by mainly to watch the planes take-off and land (diners’ close proximity to them is legendary), and feeling the rush of the engines as the planes literally flew over my head was something I’ll never forget! Even there, a major touristy spot, the food was awesome.

Because of my firm’s Virtuoso affiliation, my clients receive full buffet breakfast for two daily, one complimentary lunch for two, one day car rental (for stays of 5 nights or more), and a room upgrade at check-in if available. Additionally, I work closely with La Samanna’s management team to ensure my clients have chosen a room category best matched to their needs.

Kiawah Island, South Carolina

March 28th, 2013

I chose Kiawah Island, South Carolina for my family’s spring break trip this year.  This gorgeous barrier island is the perfect destination for families in search of a low key, yet fun-filled place to vacation.  Located just a few miles from historic Charleston, it offers a wide array of lodging and activities to fit all budgets and interests.

Kiawah is best known for its pristine stretch of Atlantic Ocean beach, world class golf and tennis, endless biking trails, great dining and shopping, and an untouched beauty hard to find in many other East Coast beach locations.  The island’s dedication to preservation is apparent everywhere.  A huge array of wildlife, marine life, flora and fauna blankets this small piece of paradise.  I felt as if my children were experiencing an outdoor classroom every time we stepped outside.

The first part of our stay was spent in an oceanfront condo, which we thoroughly enjoyed.  I very much liked the extra living space, and having access to a kitchen and washer/dryer when traveling with children was a huge bonus.

We next checked into The Sanctuary, a magnificent Virtuoso property situated directly on the ocean.  This hotel exudes southern elegance yet is relaxed and welcoming.  From the moment I stepped into the lobby, I felt as if I’d been transported to a Low Country estate from another place and time.  Every aspect of this hotel was well planned and executed, and the service was utterly flawless.

The list of awards and accolades The Sanctuary has received since its opening in 2004 is extensive.  Most notably it has been awarded the Forbes Five Star and the AAA Five Diamond Awards.  Kiawah further secured its place as a top ranking US travel destination after hosting the 2012 PGA Championship.  Visitors flock here to experience some of the best golf in the country.

A visit to Kiawah Island isn’t complete without a day trip to experience Charleston and all of its incredible history, architecture, dining and shopping.  The drive is easy and quick, and my children are still talking about the scenery in one stretch where massive live oaks draped in Spanish moss flanked a two lane road for miles.  Truly beautiful!

Virtuoso amenities at The Sanctuary include daily buffet breakfast for two, a $100 resort credit and a room upgrade if available.  If you’re more interested in renting a private home or condo, I can help you sort through the options to find the right accommodation and location for your needs.  The island is quite large and each area has a different feel.

Dorado Beach, A Ritz Carlton Reserve: Puerto Rico

March 7th, 2013

I recently had the privilege of visiting Ritz Carlton’s newest Reserve property, which is located on 1400 stunning acres on the northern coast of Puerto Rico.  Dorado Beach is only the second Reserve property to open in the world, and it has quickly become one of the Caribbean’s most exclusive and luxurious new hideouts.

It’s difficult to earn the title “Reserve,” and these resorts have a very different feel from a typical Ritz Carlton hotel.  To qualify, a Reserve property must feature low-rise buildings, be no larger than 150 rooms, and provide a two to one staff-to-guest ratio.  Additionally, the staff undergoes extensive training to ensure guests receive the highest level of personalized attention.

As a result, Dorado Beach has a unique feel to it that I haven’t encountered anywhere else in the Caribbean.  No detail was forgotten, and the rooms, grounds and public spaces are unbelievably gorgeous.  Thousands of mature palm trees (some of them over 100 years old, dating back to the time when the land was a coconut plantation) surround the buildings, providing natural shade and the feeling of having escaped to a mogul’s personal estate.

I stayed in a Reserve Plunge Room, which sat directly on an unspoiled beach of golden sand and offered every creature comfort imaginable. The highlight was the spacious plunge pool with uninterrupted views of the water and direct beach access, but I also adored the beautiful outdoor garden shower area.

Spa Botanico was nothing short of jaw-dropping.  Guests approach the hacienda-style building with no idea that a one-of-a-kind “Portal Apothecary” will greet them upon entering its doors.  The area is filled with local botanicals, many of which hang in unique, chandelier-type arrangements I’ve not seen anywhere else in the world.  The spa is comprised of five acres, and to say it’s a memorable experience is an understatement.  No expense was spared in the design of this place!

The food at Dorado Beach has a strong emphasis on local culture and ingredients.  A classic example is the story of the head chef of Mi Casa, who spent weeks checking out roadside stands around the island in search of inspiration for the pork cooked there.  I sampled some of the most amazing dishes during my stay.

Dorado Beach will appeal to couples and families alike.  I toured the Jean-Michel Cousteau’s “Ambassadors of the Environment” facility and was duly impressed.  The staff of trained naturalists lead excursions which will show guests Puerto Rico’s best natural offerings and leave everyone with a deeper understanding of the rich history, culture and environment of this often over-looked island.

Weekend in Washington D.C.

February 28th, 2013

As my son’s class was finishing a lengthy study of the 50 states at school, my husband and I decided it was time to take a trip to Washington D.C. and show our children what our nation’s capital is all about. It was one of the best weekends I can remember spending together as a family.

I chose the Mandarin Oriental Washington D.C. because I wanted to learn more about the chain and also because I really liked its location. Overlooking the Marina and the Tidal Basin, this Virtuoso property boasts lovely views and close proximity to the National Mall. Additionally, it has a family friendly culture, which was immediately apparent when my son and daughter were presented with stuffed panda bears, puzzles and activity books upon check-in. We could not have felt more welcome.

Brownell is a preferred partner with Mandarin Oriental Washington D.C., so my clients receive the following complimentary amenities:

  • Buffet breakfast for two per room per day in Sou’Wester, or continental breakfast via in-room dining
  • $100 food & beverage credit
  • Room upgrade upon arrival, subject to availability

I booked an Executive Water View Suite - a great fit for a family. My children loved watching the boats come and go from the marina, and they squealed with delight when the President’s motorcade whizzed by on Saturday morning.

I learned early on in my career as a travel consultant that club level is worth every penny, and Mandarin Oriental’s Tai Pan Club was no exception. We spent quite a bit of time on the 8th floor lounge, enjoying the attentive service (think nice quality wine for the adults and Shirley Temples for the children), great food and views, and interacting with the friendly staff.

I booked a private guide through the Mandarin Oriental’s concierge to take us around the city. It was a worthwhile investment, and having him at our disposal meant we saw everything we wanted to see in one afternoon (very important with little ones in tow). He was a walking dictionary of everything D.C., and watching the amazement on my children’s faces when they saw the Washington Monument and Capitol for the first time is something I won’t soon forget. For me personally, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial was our most memorable stop.

Our last day was spent in large part at the Museum of Natural History - an awesome place for all ages. My family is already talking about what we hope to see next time in this amazing city of museums and monuments.

New York City

February 2nd, 2013

I recently traveled to New York City to participate in a Virtuoso Northeast Regional meeting. Attended by well over 200 Virtuoso partner suppliers, it was an excellent opportunity for me to reconnect with the partners in my current network and make new connections on behalf of my clients.

Times Square

Times Square

I opted to stay at The Chatwal, a hip boutique property located on 44th Street in the heart of the Theatre District. It’s affiliated with both Virtuoso and Starwood, and appeals to leisure and business travelers alike. Because of my Virtuoso affiliation, my clients receive complimentary breakfast for two daily, a $100 spa credit at The Chatwal’s Red Door spa, and a room upgrade at check-in if available.

The building dates back to the 1930s and boasts a funky Empire Art Deco flair. Everything from the polished staff dressed elegantly in black and white to the jazz music playing in the lobby transports guests of The Chatwal to another time and place.

I was a big fan of the chic and comfortable rooms. They’re a good size by New York City standards (my Grand Deluxe room was 400 sq ft) and appointed with all the desired modern amenities. Highlights for me included the suede covered walls, extremely comfortable beds, and the heated toilet seat the staff turned on every evening. A unique touch!

When the meeting was over, I spent a fun afternoon shopping in SoHo - block after block is filled with unique shops and restaurants. It felt a world away from the hustle and bustle of midtown. Another highlight of my time spent in NYC was drinks with Brownell colleagues at the Mandarin Oriental. Their swanky lounge sits on the 35th floor of the hotel, offering spectacular views and sophisticated cocktails.  The Mandarin Oriental is also a Virtuoso property (there are 20 of them in New York City), and my clients receive continental breakfast daily, a $100 spa credit and a room upgrade at check-in if available.

Turks & Caicos: A Mecca of Luxury Options

September 26th, 2012

I recently joined a group of colleagues from Brownell for a long weekend in Turks & Caicos. My mission was to learn more about the luxury properties there so I can better help my clients differentiate one from another. Providenciales has an extraordinary number of high end hotels, most of which sit on the same stunning stretch of sand known as Grace Bay Beach. It is 12 miles of sheer beauty - white, powdery sand and clear, calm water with some of the most vibrant shades of blue in all of the Caribbean.

I began my trip at The Regent Palms, which is one of the best-known luxury properties on the island. I thought it was absolutely beautiful. It has the feel of a secluded, tropical estate - elegant yet intimate, and the grounds are lovely.

My One Bedroom Oceanview Suite offered everything a guest could want. It was spacious, tastefully decorated and had a fantastic full kitchen and washer/dryer. A huge perk for families!

Regent Palms is well known on the island for having a top spa, and I was privileged enough to experience it firsthand. I give their spa an “A+” in all aspects and believe it sets Regent Palms apart from its peers as a result.

The food is quite good as well, and guests shouldn’t miss the weekly beach barbecue, which was absolutely fantastic and a lot of fun.  I was also a big fan of their cozy, yet refined bar and thought they served up excellent cocktails.

I toured Grace Bay Club one evening and found it lived up to its reputation as a top choice on the island for luxury travelers. The hotel consists of an adults-only main hotel and two villa sections catering to families. All of the units are spacious and upscale, and Grace Bay Club has great dining and service. I particularly loved the oceanfront infinity bar and lounge area - a hip, yet casual vibe in a memorable setting.

I also toured Amanyara - the first and only Caribbean outpost for the luxury chain Aman.  It is breathtaking and exactly what I expected - an oasis of serenity and luxury.

Guests are greeted at the airport by one of the hotel’s white Land Rovers and driven to a remote part of the island where the hotel is located.  While some people prefer to be more centrally located on Grace Bay Beach, Amanyara guests are truly looking to get away from it all.  They can expect exceptional rooms and service, as well as a beautiful Turks beach.

My last stop was an overnight stay at The Veranda, a newer all-inclusive property on Grace Bay Beach.  It is an ideal choice for families or couples looking for an upscale place to stay that includes all meals and drinks.  The villas are large and comfortable with contemporary Caribbean interiors.

The cuisine is varied, and I particularly enjoyed trying some of the menu items from the hotel’s Tandoori ovens - a surprising and refreshingly different option for dining on the island.  The hotel also boasts the only second-level lounge on all of Grace Bay Beach.  The views from up there are amazing!

Bahamas Family Adventure: Atlantis, Elbow Cay and One & Only Ocean Club

July 22nd, 2012

My three week journey in the Bahamas began on Paradise Island. First stop: the mega popular and high energy resort Atlantis. I’ve sent countless clients here over the past several years but had never personally experienced this ultimate Caribbean playground. It did not disappoint!

Atlantis delivered on all that it promises to its guests. This resort has it all – countless pools, water slides, restaurants of every cuisine imaginable, white sand beaches, vast water activities, an amazing aquarium, world class casino, great shopping, and yes….luxury accommodations.

The Cove and The Reef are the newest properties at Atlantis, and they provide upscale travelers with the opportunity to have a five star experience. I chose The Reef, an all-suite hotel catering to families, because I liked the idea of having a separate sleeping area for my children and a full kitchen. We thoroughly enjoyed the spacious accommodations and flexibility a kitchen provides.

Right next door is The Cove, sister property to The Reef that boasts a frequently photographed, swanky pool area for adults only (complete with the resort’s only outdoor gaming area). This pool is only accessible to guests of The Cove, which is a big perk for those who choose to stay there.

Outdoor lobby at The Cove Atlantis

The bulk of the Cove’s accommodations are suites as well, but the layout is different from The Reef in that they have an open floor plan and no kitchen. It’s a difficult decision to choose between the two properties, so I work closely with my clients to understand their needs and help them make the right selection.  I will also assist with dining reservations, which are a big deal at Atlantis.  The choices are vast, and it’s important to make your plans in advance.

In addition to offering the most luxurious accommodations at Atlantis, The Reef and The Cove have a more secluded location away from the crowds of other Atlantis guests and day visitors from the cruise ships. There’s a private beach area just for guests of The Reef and The Cove, as well as a lovely pool situated between the two properties.

One of the “not to be missed” activities at Atlantis is a dolphin experience. I’m not sure who was more thrilled by our shallow water interaction. The whole family was literally giddy as we slipped on our wet suits and prepared to meet “Missy,” one of the friendly dolphins who delights guests every day with her amazing grace and tricks.

We left the hustle and bustle of Atlantis and headed to the out-island chain of the Bahamas known as the Abacos. Our destination was Elbow Cay, a charming, historical island chocked full of character and beauty. I chose a traditional Bahamian cottage right in the center of Hope Town so we could walk to the grocery stores, shops and restaurants. We had spectacular views of the harbor from our front yard and the ocean from our back yard.

The Abacos are a boater’s haven, as there are countless small islands to visit (known as cays), each with their own personality and vibe. We rented a boat and made frequent trips to places like Great Guana Cay, Man O’War Cay and Lubbers Quarters. Each island was fantastic, but I particularly enjoyed Great Guana because it’s home to the popular beach restaurant and bar called Nippers. Great food, great people watching, delicious rum punch and a truly breathtaking beach draw boaters here time and time again.

The final part of the trip brought me back to Paradise Island for a visit to the One & Only Ocean Club. One & Only Ocean Club defines itself by the high level of luxury and service it provides. In addition to all of the amenities typically offered at a five star property, every One & Only guest receives complimentary butler service. The butlers are friendly and attentive (but not overbearing), and they will assist with anything and everything you might need during your stay. My family quickly became addicted to the complimentary, nightly delivery of champagne and strawberries, and milk and cookies. I think I missed this indulgence more than anything when I returned home!

One & Only Ocean Club offers many activities both on property and off for its guests, including world class golf, an excellent tennis program and full-service fitness center. One of the biggest perks is their close proximity to Atlantis, which enables guests to enjoy the activities and restaurants there but then return to the luxurious seclusion of One & Only.

There are a variety of accommodations offered on property. I opted for a Garden Cottage because it was closest to the kids club and family pool, but I especially liked the oceanfront suites in the Crescent Wing which are the newest and poshest units on property.

The kids club at One & Only Ocean Club is exceptional, and my children awoke every morning asking when we would take them! My son and daughter came home with great memories and even a few crafts they now proudly display in their rooms.  Even better, their time spent in the kids club enabled my husband and me to enjoy a few quiet afternoons by the adults only pool and some leisurely lunches at Dune, One & Only’s beachfront restaurant.

Four Seasons Punta Mita, Riviera Nayarit, Mexico

April 26th, 2012

If you love luxury beach resorts and the Four Seasons Punta Mita isn’t on your radar screen, then it should be. Here’s why: the area is completely safe with a wonderfully authentic vibe, and the hotel offers beautiful scenery, extensive amenities, exemplary service, and delicious cuisine. Did I also mention the nightly sunsets that can be seen from any oceanfront venue on property?

Four Seasons Punta Mita is located on Mexico’s Riviera Nayarit (west coast) and can be reached via direct flight from many major US cities.  It’s a short drive but world away from the hustle and bustle of Puerto Vallarta.  In traditional Four Seasons fashion, guests are greeted warmly outside of customs and whisked away in a luxury SUV, but not before being handed a cold minted towel and bottle of water.  The attentive service starts there and never stops until your driver brings you back to the airport on your day of departure.  I can only describe the staff as consistently outstanding.

There are three unique pools and I enjoyed spending time at all of them. The main infinity pool overlooking the Pacific and lazy river are guaranteed family favorites, but I found them to be equally loved by the adult set.

I have never visited a hotel that provided so many complimentary, poolside amenities. They started in the morning and kept coming until late afternoon. Fresh fruit, margarita samples, candy and snack service, popsicles, face misting, sunglass cleaning service, frapuccinos and homemade snow cones are just some of the surprises that were offered during my stay.

Dining at the Four Seasons Punta Mita is a memorable experience no matter where you eat. My favorite spot was Bahia on the beach because of the setting and seafood focus, but everywhere I dined on property was exceptional, and the service was flawless.

The activity options both on and off property are endless. The gym and spa are top notch as one would expect at a Four Seasons property. The “Kids for all Seasons” facility was one of the best I’ve seen anywhere, complete with an enormous treehouse in the center of the room.  I have never seen a more extensive game room - tvs were set up everywhere with Wii, Xbox, Kinex, and more.  Additionally, there was ping pong, air hockey, pool and a movie viewing room with bean bag seating for at least 20 children.

Punta Mita is a haven for golf, tennis, fishing, surfing, paddle boarding and more. Zip lining and ATV excursions can be arranged as well, and I especially enjoyed a day trip to Sayulita, a nearby, vibrant and hippie surf town. My husband and I spent an afternoon there wandering through unique shops, walking along the beach to watch the surfers, and dining at curbside food stands. The fish tacos and ceviche were unforgettable.

Chile: Land of Adventure and Beauty

One of the most exciting journeys of my life began with an overnight flight to Santiago, where I hopped on another plane which would deliver me to one of the most spectacular destinations in the world - Patagonia. The journey takes time, but it’s worth every minute spent to get there. Upon arrival, I knew I was somewhere otherworldly. From my transfer van, I gazed out at the open plains along a two lane highway that ultimately led to a new hotel called The Singular.  Its arrival in Patagonia opens up a new luxury option in a part of the world with only a handful of upscale choices available to the discerning traveler.

The Singular is situated just a few minutes away from the charming harbor town of Puerto Natales. The property used to be a sheep processing plant (of all things!), and a large part of the original operations have been painstakingly preserved, as the hotel was recently named a Chilean national monument. The modern architecture and chic decor of the newly added hotel section somehow blend with a factory of long ago to create one of the most unique hotels I’ve personally visited.

The full board plan most guests opt for is an excellent value, as all meals, drinks, airport transfers, and activities with bilingual guides are included. The activity choices are vast - it would be easy to spend a week here and not see it all! Torres del Paine National Park cannot be missed, and there are simply no words to describe its beauty. Trekking is a main activity there, as this is the best way to take in the spectacular landscape.

Upon return, I opted to spend some time at The Singular’s fantastic spa. There are plenty of treatment choices, but my favorite part of the experience was lounging in front of the floor to ceiling wall of glass which overlooked the fjords.  It was a stunning view, only made better by the black necked geese swimming right in front of me at the water’s edge.  Guests can get even closer to them by taking a dip in the indoor/outdoor heated pool.

My second day started at the hotel pier, where I boarded one of The Singular’s boats for a ride through the Patagonian Fjords and ultimately to the Serrano Glacier. Along the way, I saw waterfalls, sea lions, unreachable glaciers high in the mountains, and a landscape so dramatic that I couldn’t stop snapping pictures.

I reluctantly left beautiful Patagonia and made my way back to Santiago for an overnight stay at the city’s hottest new hotel, the W. It is hip and happening, and I especially loved the outdoor bar/lounge/pool area on the 21st floor.

Santiago offers a wide array of activities for visitors, including bike rides through the city, a visit to the charming Dominican market, and day trips to scenic vineyards in the countryside.  It’s a great stopping off point for travelers moving from one part of the country to another.

My final destination was Vina VIK, a magnificent vineyard comprised of 11,000 acres of stunning beauty.  It’s located two hours from Santiago in the Valley of Millahue, and I can’t say enough good things about my experience there.  The vineyard is directly affiliated with VIK Retreats, which is well-known in South America for their successful properties in Uruguay (Estancia VIK and Playa VIK).  The vision of Vina VIK is to create a “holistic” vineyard, one which is the greenest in the country.  They are already producing an excellent 2009 red wine with many more premium vintages to come.

I was fortunate enough to tour the production facility that is currently being constructed on property.  To say it is impressive is an understatement.  In line with VIK’s mission to be “one” with their surrounding environment, the entire facility is being built underground so that only the roof will be visible from the hilltop where the new Vinya VIK hotel is also under construction.  This luxury, boutique hotel is slated to open in late 2012, and it will be the ultimate retreat for wine and nature lovers.

In addition to the stunning landscape, guests will be able to trek through the extensive grounds, horseback ride to remote locations, enjoy the spa, and of course learn all about VIK’s wine-making process.  In the meantime, Vina VIK is hosting guests at their hilltop cabin where I stayed.  It is charming and sophisticated all at the same time, and the staff was fabulous.

I had the incredible good fortune of being there the night of harvest, so I awoke very early one morning to join workers in the field and pick grapes.  It was a privilege to be a part of the activities, and the experience is one that I will never forget.  I’m anxious to return when the hotel is complete and see this amazing property reach its pinnacle.

The Ritz Carlton Key Biscayne, Miami, FL

March 8th, 2012

My family’s arrival into south Florida reminded me of something out of a Miami Vice episode….a white stretch limo was waiting for us at the airport, courtesy of my favorite transfer company in the area.  My children were giddy with excitement!  We opted to fly into Ft. Lauderdale for our visit to the Ritz Carlton Key Biscayne because of Jet Blue’s competitive rates and direct schedule from Richmond.  A quick 45 minutes later, and we’d arrived at my new favorite family hotel in the Ritz Carlton portfolio.  Alternatively, you can fly directly into Miami and get to the property within 20-30 minutes.

Key Biscayne is located across the causeway, away from the hustle and bustle of Miami.  It has an ideal location in my opinion - quiet and relaxing, but just a few minutes away from Miami, South Beach, Cocunut Grove, Coral Gables, etc.  In other words, families can escape here but easily venture off property to experience the fantastic shopping, dining and cultural diversity that defines the greater Miami area.

We booked an Oceanfront suite - spacious and ideal for a family of four, with fantastic views of the ocean and grounds below.  Guests can expect the regular creature comforts they’ve grown to love when booking a Ritz Carlton hotel, all delivered with exceptional service and friendliness.  I truly felt like a rock star when we arrived, and I later verified with a few guests that my experience had been consistent with others.  The bellman who materialized with champagne for the adults and lemonade for the children on a silver tray was a particularly nice touch.

The dining at this property is top notch, and service is flawless.  I found the food to be exceedingly good, and the venues diverse.  Cantina on the beach with it’s Mexican flair was a favorite, but I also really enjoyed Cioppino’s elegant Italian fare and setting . My children found something they liked at every meal thanks to the expansive kids menu offered at all of the hotel’s restaurants.  We spent our last lunch at Dune, the hotel’s newest dining option, specializing in burgers served right on the beach.

The Ritz Carlton Key Biscayne offers an impressive number of activities for guests to enjoy.  It boasts the largest tennis center in the entire Ritz portfolio (11 courts total), a 20,000 sq ft spa with 21 treatment rooms, a spacious fitness center, spinning room, stretching room, non-motorized water sports, and outdoor games for families such as pool, ping pong, and even a lawn for kicking around a soccer ball!  The Kids Club, which offers organized activities for children from the ages of 5-12, is another well loved and used facility.

My family spent the bulk of our time at the family pool or playing on the beach.  The family pool was designed with a zero entry, which is ideal for younger children.  My husband and I could relax because our daughter was safely able to get in and out of the pool by herself.  And for parents who are able to steal away a few moments without their children, the adults only pool was a quiet sanctuary perfect for reading and relaxing.

I opted for Club Level again for this trip because time and time again, it’s proven to be an excellent value.  The lounge serves good quality food and drinks all day long, and I was particularly fond of the hotel’s “Club on the Beach,” another amenity unique to the Ritz Carlton Key Biscayne.  Club level guests could walk right over from the pool and grab a snack and non-alcoholic drinks throughout the day.  It was a great perk and very convenient for club guests who didn’t want to leave the sun and go to the 9th floor lounge.

My firm is a part of the elite Ritz Carlton STARS program, which translates into extra perks and amenities for my clients when I book them at this hotel (and any Ritz Carlton, for that matter!).  At the Ritz Carlton Key Biscayne, my clients receive the following amenities: Daily breakfast buffet for two people per room in Cioppino, $50 spa credit per room, $50 food & beverage credit per room, and a room upgrade if available.
