Four Seasons Punta Mita is located on Mexico’s Riviera Nayarit (west coast) and can be reached via direct flight from many major US cities.  It’s a short drive but world away from the hustle and bustle of Puerto Vallarta.  In traditional Four Seasons fashion, guests are greeted warmly outside of customs and whisked away in a luxury SUV, but not before being handed a cold minted towel and bottle of water.  The attentive service starts there and never stops until your driver brings you back to the airport on your day of departure.  I can only describe the staff as consistently outstanding.

The rooms are luxurious and spacious. I was fortunate enough to stay in one of the Oceanview Suites and particularly enjoyed spending time on the huge terrace, complete with hammock and plunge pool.

Many families or larger groups opt to book one of the hotel ’s 50 spectacular villas, which dot the property and come with every creature comfort imaginable.

The hotel’s 27 acres are meticulously maintained and home to two spectacular beaches. The posh chairs and beach staff make for a pampered experience in a beautiful setting.

There are three unique pools and I enjoyed spending time at all of them. The main infinity pool overlooking the Pacific and lazy river are guaranteed family favorites, but I found them to be equally loved by the adult set.

Speaking of adults, the adults only pool is garden-side and surrounded by a host of posh cabanas for rent. It took some serious motivation for me to leave mine and the VIP service at the end of the day!

I have never visited a hotel that provided so many complimentary, poolside amenities. They started in the morning and kept coming until late afternoon. Fresh fruit, margarita samples, candy and snack service, popsicles, face misting, sunglass cleaning service, frapuccinos and homemade snow cones are just some of the surprises that were offered during my stay.

Dining at the Four Seasons Punta Mita is a memorable experience no matter where you eat. My favorite spot was Bahia on the beach because of the setting and seafood focus, but everywhere I dined on property was exceptional, and the service was flawless.

The activity options both on and off property are endless. The gym and spa are top notch as one would expect at a Four Seasons property. The “Kids for all Seasons” facility was one of the best I’ve seen anywhere, complete with an enormous treehouse in the center of the room.  I have never seen a more extensive game room - tvs were set up everywhere with Wii, Xbox, Kinex, and more.  Additionally, there was ping pong, air hockey, pool and a movie viewing room with bean bag seating for at least 20 children.

Punta Mita is a haven for golf, tennis, fishing, surfing, paddle boarding and more. Zip lining and ATV excursions can be arranged as well, and I especially enjoyed a day trip to Sayulita, a nearby, vibrant and hippie surf town. My husband and I spent an afternoon there wandering through unique shops, walking along the beach to watch the surfers, and dining at curbside food stands. The fish tacos and ceviche were unforgettable.

The Singular is situated just a few minutes away from the charming harbor town of Puerto Natales. The property used to be a sheep processing plant (of all things!), and a large part of the original operations have been painstakingly preserved, as the hotel was recently named a Chilean national monument. The modern architecture and chic decor of the newly added hotel section somehow blend with a factory of long ago to create one of the most unique hotels I’ve personally visited.

The full board plan most guests opt for is an excellent value, as all meals, drinks, airport transfers, and activities with bilingual guides are included. The activity choices are vast - it would be easy to spend a week here and not see it all! Torres del Paine National Park cannot be missed, and there are simply no words to describe its beauty. Trekking is a main activity there, as this is the best way to take in the spectacular landscape.

Be prepared for wind!

Upon return, I opted to spend some time at The Singular’s fantastic spa. There are plenty of treatment choices, but my favorite part of the experience was lounging in front of the floor to ceiling wall of glass which overlooked the fjords.  It was a stunning view, only made better by the black necked geese swimming right in front of me at the water’s edge.  Guests can get even closer to them by taking a dip in the indoor/outdoor heated pool.

My second day started at the hotel pier, where I boarded one of The Singular’s boats for a ride through the Patagonian Fjords and ultimately to the Serrano Glacier. Along the way, I saw waterfalls, sea lions, unreachable glaciers high in the mountains, and a landscape so dramatic that I couldn’t stop snapping pictures.

Santiago offers a wide array of activities for visitors, including bike rides through the city, a visit to the charming Dominican market, and day trips to scenic vineyards in the countryside.  It’s a great stopping off point for travelers moving from one part of the country to another.

My final destination was Vina VIK, a magnificent vineyard comprised of 11,000 acres of stunning beauty.  It’s located two hours from Santiago in the Valley of Millahue, and I can’t say enough good things about my experience there.  The vineyard is directly affiliated with VIK Retreats, which is well-known in South America for their successful properties in Uruguay (Estancia VIK and Playa VIK).  The vision of Vina VIK is to create a “holistic” vineyard, one which is the greenest in the country.  They are already producing an excellent 2009 red wine with many more premium vintages to come.

I was fortunate enough to tour the production facility that is currently being constructed on property.  To say it is impressive is an understatement.  In line with VIK’s mission to be “one” with their surrounding environment, the entire facility is being built underground so that only the roof will be visible from the hilltop where the new Vinya VIK hotel is also under construction.  This luxury, boutique hotel is slated to open in late 2012, and it will be the ultimate retreat for wine and nature lovers.

In addition to the stunning landscape, guests will be able to trek through the extensive grounds, horseback ride to remote locations, enjoy the spa, and of course learn all about VIK’s wine-making process.  In the meantime, Vina VIK is hosting guests at their hilltop cabin where I stayed.  It is charming and sophisticated all at the same time, and the staff was fabulous.

Key Biscayne is located across the causeway, away from the hustle and bustle of Miami.  It has an ideal location in my opinion - quiet and relaxing, but just a few minutes away from Miami, South Beach, Cocunut Grove, Coral Gables, etc.  In other words, families can escape here but easily venture off property to experience the fantastic shopping, dining and cultural diversity that defines the greater Miami area.

We booked an Oceanfront suite - spacious and ideal for a family of four, with fantastic views of the ocean and grounds below.  Guests can expect the regular creature comforts they’ve grown to love when booking a Ritz Carlton hotel, all delivered with exceptional service and friendliness.  I truly felt like a rock star when we arrived, and I later verified with a few guests that my experience had been consistent with others.  The bellman who materialized with champagne for the adults and lemonade for the children on a silver tray was a particularly nice touch.

The dining at this property is top notch, and service is flawless.  I found the food to be exceedingly good, and the venues diverse.  Cantina on the beach with it’s Mexican flair was a favorite, but I also really enjoyed Cioppino’s elegant Italian fare and setting . My children found something they liked at every meal thanks to the expansive kids menu offered at all of the hotel’s restaurants.  We spent our last lunch at Dune, the hotel’s newest dining option, specializing in burgers served right on the beach.

The Ritz Carlton Key Biscayne offers an impressive number of activities for guests to enjoy.  It boasts the largest tennis center in the entire Ritz portfolio (11 courts total), a 20,000 sq ft spa with 21 treatment rooms, a spacious fitness center, spinning room, stretching room, non-motorized water sports, and outdoor games for families such as pool, ping pong, and even a lawn for kicking around a soccer ball!  The Kids Club, which offers organized activities for children from the ages of 5-12, is another well loved and used facility.

My family spent the bulk of our time at the family pool or playing on the beach.  The family pool was designed with a zero entry, which is ideal for younger children.  My husband and I could relax because our daughter was safely able to get in and out of the pool by herself.  And for parents who are able to steal away a few moments without their children, the adults only pool was a quiet sanctuary perfect for reading and relaxing.

I opted for Club Level again for this trip because time and time again, it’s proven to be an excellent value.  The lounge serves good quality food and drinks all day long, and I was particularly fond of the hotel’s “Club on the Beach,” another amenity unique to the Ritz Carlton Key Biscayne.  Club level guests could walk right over from the pool and grab a snack and non-alcoholic drinks throughout the day.  It was a great perk and very convenient for club guests who didn’t want to leave the sun and go to the 9th floor lounge.

My first impression of the island was this; “Wow, it’s so quick and easy to get here!”  Bermuda can be reached from most major gateways on the east coast within two hours.  By mid-afternoon, I was on the beach with a cocktail in hand.  My second impression of the island was its pervasive beauty.  The homes are well kept and painted cheerful colors, there is no trash to be found anywhere, and vibrant, lush landscaping covers much of the island.  I’ve never seen a destination so clean and beautiful, and the friendliness of the Bermudians is the icing on the cake.

My first stop was Rosewood’s newest addition to their Caribbean portfolio called Tucker’s Point, the first new hotel to open on the island in over a decade.  This hotel embodies elegance and opulence, but it’s not fussy in any way.  Families will be very comfortable bringing their children here, and couples seeking a romantic experience can rest assured that the size of the property will provide them with plenty of privacy.

The main hotel is located on a bluff overlooking Castle Harbour, and all of the rooms offer dramatic views of the water. The interior design reminded me of a subdued Greenbrier Hotel style:  old-world, warm, but very elegant.  Activities are spread out across a sizable piece of land, so even when the hotel is full (and I stayed there when all rooms were occupied), it never feels crowded.

Guests can choose to spend their time at one of  two different pools close to the main hotel, a separate beach club and pool area, the tennis courts, the golf course, or sight-seeing around the island.  Tucker’s Point Golf Club, which is situated on over 200 gorgeous acres, is a big draw for the hotel, as are the four clay tennis courts and team of professionals to help you better either game.

For guests seeking relaxation and pampering, the spa at Tucker’s Point is the perfect spot to unwind.  It boasts eight treatment rooms and has truly some of the prettiest common areas I’ve seen in a spa anywhere in the world.  A full range of services is offered, and the therapists are well-trained professionals who will ensure your experience is a memorable one.

Dining at Rosewood Tucker’s Point did not disappoint, and the quality of the food and ambiance at the different restaurants was in line with other Rosewood properties in the region (i.e. fantastic!).  I particularly loved my dinner at The Point, and while pricey, my husband and I definitely felt it was worth every penny.

A few days later, I moved to The Reefs, a well-known, family-owned hotel on the other side of the island.  I loved it the minute I arrived.  This hotel embodies a Bermudian charm that’s difficult to describe without seeing it with your own eyes.  The setting is dramatic, which adds to the atmosphere and didn’t allow me to put down my camera for very long.  There were too many possible photo opportunities everywhere I looked!

The Reefs has been in business since the 1940s, and the Dodwell family has been working hard in recent years to keep the hotel up to date with modern amenities, but also stay true to their original goal of providing guests with a traditional Bermudian experience.  Rooms are a little smaller than what you find at newer hotels, but I found them to have plenty of space for me.  Additionally, the view from the balcony of my Jr. Suite couldn’t be beat.

There are a number of dining options on property, and each restaurant served up delicious food in a memorable setting.  I was partial to Coconuts, a romantic restaurant situated right above the beach.  It was where my husband and I chose to celebrate our wedding anniversary, and I couldn’t have imagined a lovelier setting for a special occasion.

The Reefs “dine around ” program is a big draw for the repeat guests who return year after year.  Guests have the option to dine at Pompano Beach Club or Cambridge Beaches as part of their meal plan (Rates at The Reefs include breakfast, afternoon tea and dinner daily).  It’s a great way to see other parts of the island and enjoy a diverse dining experience during your vacation.  Also worth mentioning is the hotel’s brand new spa - a lovely space with eight treatment rooms and sweeping ocean views from the relaxation area.

When we weren’t enjoying these two amazing hotels, my husband and I spent our time exploring Bermuda’s varied activities and sites.  There are beautiful beaches to discover, historic towns to walk through, some serious shopping to be done in Hamilton, and much, much more.  I’ve already made a list of what I want to see and do when I return - this “jewel of the Atlantic” is calling me back.

Travel Mart is very important for Virtuoso travel consultants like me because it’s the ultimate opportunity to refresh my knowledge of the world’s best luxury properties and tour operators, learn about new ones, and network, network, network.  For four days, I sat at a table with other Brownell consultants and listened to the four minute updates each Virtuoso supplier was alloted to spend with us.  By the time it was done, over 300 of the best travel contacts in the business had visited my table and met with me personally.  It was an overwhelming and meaningful few days!

If I’ve said it once, I’ll say it again – Ritz Carlton Club Level is worth every penny! For a nominal extra nightly charge, club level guests enjoy gourmet breakfast, lunch, evening hors d’oeuvres and desserts daily at the exclusive lounge, in addition to sodas and alcoholic beverages. I particularly enjoyed spending time at this lounge because it offered outdoor seating overlooking the ocean, as well as a cozy children’s area complete with games and a small table where the younger club guests can dine. My children loved it! The lounge also provided a special seating area for adults only to accommodate couples enjoying a romantic get-away.

The rooms and service were predictable for Ritz Carlton and did not disappoint. I found the staff to be friendly and accommodating. Additionally, the décor of the rooms was up-to-date, tasteful and appropriate for an island setting. Dining options are good as well. There are a number of different venues, all with great ambiance, tasty food, and an attentive wait staff. For guests looking to venture off property, the hotel is located just a few minutes from Red Hook, a vibrant harbor area with fun bars and restaurants.

Resort fees can add up, but the management team at the Ritz Carlton St. Thomas has made it a good value in my opinion considering what’s included. Wireless internet, access to the gym, all water sports (the most extensive offering I’ve seen pretty much anywhere in the Caribbean), tennis, one fitness class per day and much more are covered in the daily charge of $58.00 per room per day.

My next visit was to the newly reopened Four Seasons Nevis. While there is a small airport on the island for regional charter flights, most visitors fly to St. Kitts like I did and take the 40 minute boat ride over to Nevis. With massive Mt. Nevis rising dramatically in the background, Nevis feels like a destination from a different time and place, and there’s nowhere in the Caribbean that looks quite like it.

The Four Seasons Nevis recently reopened in December, and it’s back better than ever. The ferry ride from St. Kitts is quite enjoyable (due to the scenery and rum punch!), and you know you’ve arrived somewhere special when staff members greet you at the dock by name. The layout is lovely: 12 two story guest buildings just steps from the sand blend naturally into the landscape, and the hotel is surrounded by one of the best golf courses in the Caribbean.

The spacious and airy rooms boast every luxury a guest could need, and the staff attends to your every whim. Three pools are available for the guests’ use, and each one has a different venue. We stayed closest to the Ocean Pool, which is designed with young families in mind, but there is also the Garden Pool (for adults and older children), and the Reflection Pool (for adults only) so that everyone on property can find a comfortable spot to swim and relax. The Four Seasons works diligently to serve both its couples and families, and I saw a mix of both very much enjoying themselves during my stay.

I can’t say enough good things about the way the Four Seasons treats its younger guests. The staff goes out of its way to make them feel welcome. Miniature bathrobes and slippers, a special child’s menu, colorful straws and utensils in all of the restaurants, a playground, and an amazing kid’s club are just some of the many amenities provided. The Kids for All Seasons program was truly impressive. The facility is incredible, and fun recreational activities are offered daily at no extra charge.

In addition to world class golf, the Four Seasons Nevis has an excellent tennis program (there are ten courts on property), full service gym, fantastic spa, and delicious dining options. I was partial to Mango, which offers West-Indian dining right on the water, but I truly enjoyed every meal during my stay and found the service to be consistently flawless.

Two flights and two ferries later, we arrived on the stunning island of St. John for a visit to Caneel Bay, one of the Caribbean’s legendary resort destinations. It was founded by Laurence Rockefeller in the 1950s, and the current owners are very loyal to his vision of barefoot elegance in a tranquil setting. Set on 170 pristine acres, the resort boasts seven picture perfect beaches with white sand, clear water, and excellent snorkeling.

Caneel Bay’s website states, “The resort remains purposefully absent of modern glitz and digital distractions.” I couldn’t say it better myself. This hotel is not for lovers of indulgent bathrooms, flat screen tvs, and marble floors. However, the accommodations are plenty luxurious and perfectly suited to a resort that is all about natural beauty and tranquility in a low key setting.

There is truly no other resort like Caneel Bay in the region. The grounds are vast and well maintained, and the scenery is honestly breath-taking. I saw deer and donkeys roaming the property (they steer clear of the guests, so no worries!), and particularly enjoyed riding around in one of the hotel’s open air trams with my family just for the purpose of taking in the views.

It’s important to choose the right accommodations, as they are very different depending on the location on property. Even when the hotel is fully occupied, guests will never feel that it’s crowded because everything is so spread out. Each beach has its own unique vibe, and repeat guests are quite opinionated about which one is their favorite!

Younger guests will enjoy Turtle Town, a charming kid’s club facility set up in the hillside and loaded with toys and games. A warm staff of ladies runs the program, and my children were instantly comfortable when we took them for the first time. Beach toys are available as well, and my husband and I spent many hours building sand castles on Caneel Beach with our son and daughter.

Dining options are varied by menu and location on property. My favorite spot was The Equator, an open-air restaurant with great views of St. Thomas in the distance, and couples celebrating a special occasion would particularly enjoy privately dining in the ruins of an old sugar mill on property.

The U.S. Virgin Islands are a sailor’s paradise, and no trip to St. John would be complete without a little time on the water. Caneel Bay has relationships with a number of reliable boat owners and tour companies on the island, and guests seeking a boat experience will find no shortage of options. We chose a full day sail and snorkel trip, and it was one of the highlights of our vacation.

I began my trip at The Tides, a boutique Virtuoso property best described on the hotel’s website as ”the diva of Ocean Drive.” Guests are greeted by good-looking bellmen dressed in all white and whisked into a beautiful lobby of cream, gold and beige.  A complimentary “Signature Drink” was immediately slipped into my hand, and in an instant, I felt like a movie star on vacation.

My husband and I opted to dine at the hotel’s sidewalk cafe, and the meal was truly incredible.  I enjoyed a fantastic mojito and fresh ceviche while watching the diverse crowd of locals and tourists from all over the world meander by.  Next up was a lazy afternoon on the beach, which was wider and cleaner than I ever imagined.  The water boasts the same turquoise hues of the Caribbean, and despite the large number of people enjoying its beauty, I never felt it was too crowded.

There are a number of different room categories offered at The Tides, and after seeing them all, I can honestly say there isn’t a bad room in the house.  Each room provides a direct ocean view, and the decor had a consistent “South Beach chic” vibe to it.  Because of my Virtuoso affiliation, my clients receive complimentary full breakfast for two daily, one lunch for two (up to $75 value), and a room upgrade if available.

My next stop was the Ritz Carlton South Beach, another Virtuoso institution in this town of  luxury hotels.  The staff greeted me in the typical Ritz Carlton fashion - with flawless professionalism and a true commitment to customer service.  The hotel is located literally steps from the best restaurants, shops and clubs in South Beach.  In addition to offering the only club level lounge in South Beach, it also has the only beachfront restaurant in town (called The DiLido Beach Club).

I cannot say enough good things about Club Level at the Ritz.  It is worth every penny!  The food presentations run all day long, and the wine, champagne, and spirits flow from lunchtime to bedtime.  The club lounge is located on the 10th floor, and wall to wall windows give guests spectacular views of both the beach and Biscayne Bay.

The rooms have a more traditional Ritz Carlton feel to them, and they are comfortable and well stocked. Virtuoso guests receive some excellent amenities here:  daily buffet breakfast for two, a $100 spa credit, and a room upgrade if available.  For travelers seeking the familiarity of the Ritz Carlton product and a central location, this hotel is an ideal choice.

I also spent some time at The Setai, a 135 room Virtuoso property of pure luxury.  Its Asian influenced decor is both serene and sophisticated, and some of the interior details are quite remarkable.  The lobby boasts a floor made up entirely of centuries-old brick imported from Shanghai, and the mother of pearl bar couldn’t be a swankier spot to enjoy your favorite martini.

I was particularly impressed by The Setai’s commitment to room quality.  Their rooms are in immaculate condition, mainly due to the fact that no interior is older than 365 days.  The hotel is constantly refurbishing and upgrades every room once a year:  a luxury few other properties in the world can afford. Guests have the choice of staying in either the main hotel or the new tower with larger 1, 2 and 3 bedroom suites.  Virtuoso amenities at The Setai include full buffet breakfast daily for two, a $100 spa credit, and a room upgrade if avaialable.

For spa lovers, The Setai offers some of the nicest treatment rooms in South Beach.  I especially liked their spa suites, which hold up to four guests at a time and are ideal for a girls’ getaway.  After relaxing at the spa, no stay at The Setai would be complete without spending time at one of their three pools.  Each one is maintained at a separate temperature, so depending on your mood and the weather, you can choose accordingly!

When I wasn’t checking out hotels, I spent my time in South Beach dining at fantastic restaurants and buying more than I should at some of their wonderful boutiques.  The town lived up to every expectation and exceeded it in terms of the friendliness of the people.  I met people from all over the world, and their warmth mirrored the warm sun of this tropical American paradise.  When can I go back???

The Jamaica Inn has it all: gorgeous rooms, delicious food, a warm and attentive staff, a fantastic spa, immaculate grounds, and one of the best beaches in all of Jamaica. The beach is 700 feet long and looks over a protected marine park on the northern coast of the island.

The hotel offers several different suite categories, all with spacious outdoor sitting areas. There are also a few select cottages, some of which have been converted from two bedroom to one bedroom suites. I was lucky enough to stay in one of these units and can honestly say it was stunning and worth every extra penny for clients seeking a particularly memorable experience.

Travelers will find no shortage of luxury hotels in the Caribbean with pretty rooms, food and beaches. What sets the Jamaica Inn apart is the staff. Every aspect of service was flawless - dining, housekeeping, grounds, management, and of course, the bartenders!   Teddy has been there for over 50 years, and Rupert boasts a nearly 35 year stint at the hotel. Pretty amazing, and it speaks volumes to the loyalty the staff has to the hotel.

Spa lovers will be delighted with Kiyara Ocean Spa, which is nestled on a bluff at one end of the property.  I enjoyed a private yoga lesson in one of their outdoor treatment areas with the waves crashing below. Inspirational to say the least! Additionally, the spa menu has a strong wellness focus with many fabulous treatments offered.

Brownell’s preferred relationship with the Jamaica Inn enables me to offer extra amenities, including complimentary continental breakfast daily, a room upgrade if available, and a special in-room gift.  I can’t think of a more romantic place for a couple to celebrate something special.  For me personally, the trip was an opportunity to celebrate my wedding anniversary with my husband.  We commemorated the event with a private dinner on the beach; away from all modern day distractions.  The Jamaica Inn is all about relaxing, unplugging, and spending time with that special someone in a spectacular destination.  What could be better?

Whether you’re searching for the ideal honeymoon or family destination, Antigua has something to offer everyone.  The key is knowing which property to select, which is why I opted to stay at a number of different resorts while on the island.    I found each one to be incredibly unique in feel and atmosphere.

The Verandah:  Eco-friendly, all-inclusive hotel located on the northeastern part of the island.  It is a great choice for families with a moderate budget who want lots of activities for everyone.  Highlights of this property include a gorgeous beach with calm water perfect for young children, lovely landscaping, an excellent Kids Club facility, and some of the best live music I had the pleasure of hearing while visiting Antigua.  A different band plays every night by the main pool bar, which creates a fun atmosphere for the guests.  My personal favorite was a nine person steel drum band - everyone was dancing that night!

Carlisle Bay:  “Contemporary luxury on the beach” is the description the hotel provides on its website, and I couldn’t agree more.  It is a polished, yet unpretentious hotel well suited for both families and couples, although couples should expect to encounter a number of young families while on property.  I was a huge fan of the Beach Suites, which are spacious, two bedroom accommodations literally steps from the beach.   As a mother of two young children, I found the layout to be ideal!

Other highlights from Carlisle Bay include a lovely beach, incredible food, unusually good fitness and tennis facilities (including nine courts - the most I’ve seen anywhere in the Caribbean), a consistently attentive staff, and a top notch Kids Club facility.  I also loved the nightly children’s buffet, which was complimentary and served poolside every night from 5-6:30PM.  It was wonderful to feed the children early in a casual environment, then hire a sitter to play with them while my husband and I enjoyed a quiet dinner alone.  Heaven!

Curtain Bluff:  I would best describe this legendary, all-inclusive hotel as The Greenbrier meets the Caribbean.  It is charming, elegant and friendly - the quintessential Caribbean resort.  What makes this property so special is the owner and the staff.  Mrs. Hulford and her late husband started the hotel almost 50 years ago, and their vision has resulted in a unique culture among the Antiguans who work there.  Many of them have been employees of Curtain Bluff for decades, and their loyalty and pride is immediately evident upon check-in.

In addition to two breathtaking beaches, I particularly loved the rooms, dining options and the spa.  Built just a few years ago, Curtain Bluff’s spa has a spectacular setting on a bluff overlooking the Caribbean.

The main dining area is so romantic that it reminded me of a set from a movie.  An enormous tamarind tree is the anchor of the courtyard, where a different band plays nightly.  Guests enjoy superb service and gourmet dining in this amazing setting.   Once finished with dinner, many guests opt to dance under the twinkling white lights that flank the pavilion.

Jumby Bay:  Ultra-luxurious hideaway located on a 300 acre private island, which is accessible only by ferry from the mainland of Antigua.  Immediately upon arriving at the dock, guests feel like royalty as they are greeted by a polished staff offering a rum punch in one hand and a cold-scented towel in the other.

This all-inclusive hotel recently underwent a massive renovation, and the results are magnificent.  The rooms are incredibly luxurious, all offering amazing views of the ocean.

A new infinity pool sits on a bluff overlooking the water, and guests taking a dip are just steps away from enjoying a wonderful lunch at the Pool Grille. I particularly enjoyed spending time at The Verandah - Jumby’s newly designed beachfront bar and restaurant.  Other highlights of this Rosewood property include a stunning, long beach great for relaxing or walking, complimentary bicycles for traversing the island, and elegant (yet casual) bars ideal for enjoying your favorite cocktail.

Our first stop was Anguilla, site of some of the best beaches in the world.  Like most visitors, I flew into St. Martin and hopped on a boat for the beautiful, 30 minute ride over to Anguilla.  The two islands are only a few miles apart, which makes for pretty background scenery if you happen to stay on the side of Anguilla facing St. Martin.  I love looking out over the mountains of St. Martin and its twinkling lights at night - a beautiful site!

I was fortunate enough to stay at Cap Juluca, which is my favorite property on the island.  I visited the hotel with my husband in 2003 and have been telling people since then that Cap Juluca is one of the most spectacular places I’ve ever experienced.  To say that its mile long, crescent shaped beach is beautiful is an understatement.  It is truly one of the most gorgeous beaches I’ve seen in my lifetime.  Add the stunning Moorish architecture of the hotel to the soft, white sand and calm, clear water, and guests will find themselves enjoying a true piece of paradise.

Cap Juluca recently underwent a $28 million dollar renovation, which has taken the famed hotel to new levels of luxury and notoriety.  The Main House was completely redesigned, and its Moroccan themed interior is perfectly matched with the architecture of the hotel.  Additionally, the rooms were all refreshed with new beds, linens, flat screen tvs and more.

Every room at Cap Juluca is oceanfront and located just steps from the beach.  Guests awake to the sounds of the waves crashing, and a few lucky ones like myself might meet the lone green parrot who visits the balconies of his favorite rooms each morning.  Most guests opt to have breakfast delivered to their rooms at a time of their choosing.  My attendant brought fresh pastries, fruit, and coffee or tea each day and set a beautiful table for me on my patio overlooking the beach.

Dining at Cap Juluca is a five star experience.  Their restaurants are romantic, innovative, and the food is incredibly good.  I particularly enjoyed Flights, their new wine bar, followed up by a Pan-Asian themed dinner at the new Spice restaurant.   Pimms is another excellent option, and its waterfront tables are filled with starry-eyed couples enjoying a romantic evening and gourmet food.

I always recommend that clients rent a car for at least one day while staying on Anguilla.  The island is safe, easy to navigate, and there are several other beaches worth exploring.  Additionally, the restaurant choices are vast.  Anguilla is one of the best islands in the Caribbean for fine dining, so everyone should sample at least a few of them.  I have a personal favorite list of spots I share with clients before they depart.  There is no shortage of options!

My next destination was St. Barts, which is part of the French West Indies.  As soon as my plane touched down, I felt as if I’d arrived at a seaside town in France.  The language, cuisine and culture of St. Barts are distinctly French, and the island is a hotbed of upscale boutique hotels, fantastic restaurants, and unique shops.   The island is also incredibly scenic due to it mountainous terrain.  Picturesque beaches are tucked between green mountains dotted with villas and small hotels.  Because of its beauty and high level of sophistication, St. Barts is one of the most unique islands in all of the Caribbean.

I stayed at Guanahani, a legendary hotel and resort located just ten minutes from the airport.  Its charming and colorful cottages dot the hillside, which provide memorable views of the water and rocky coast.  Frequented by celebrities and well-heeled travelers, Guanahani offers a wonderful combination of luxurious accommodations, world-renowned dining, and one of the most polished and attentive staff I’ve encountered in the region.

My room overlooked a cove on the other side of the hill and was the perfect spot to enjoy a good book and glass of pink French champagne.  When I was ready to venture out of my room, I walked through the hotel’s meticulous grounds down to the beach, where a lively bar and restaurant can be found.  Additionally, there are comfortable lounge chairs and thatched umbrellas for guests to use.  The beach attendants are approachable and attentive, and I enjoyed a few lazy afternoons under their care.

Guanahani’s food is so good that I’m not sure I can adequately describe it in this posting.  The breakfast buffet is offered poolside by the beach, and the options are endless.  Decidedly French, guests can order from a menu offering items such as homemade crepes and cafe au lait.  While they wait, they can choose from a vast array of freshly baked pastries, fruit, cheeses, and more offered at the buffet.  Le Bartolomeo is Guanahani’s signature restaurant.  It offers diners a romantic, courtyard setting and fine French cuisine as good as anything served in an upscale restaurant in France.  My meal there was one of the best I remember in many years!

The Clarins spa at Guanahani is the nicest spa on St. Barts and a big attraction for guests.  The extensive spa menu pampers guests in a serene setting.  I particularly recommend the Swedish massage, which left me relaxed and ready to explore the island.

St. Barts is another island great for renting a car.  There are so many wonderful restaurants and boutiques to explore, as well as a number of quaint beaches.  I recommend packing a picnic lunch and driving to Governour Beach for great swimming, lounging and people watching.

For travelers who’d like to experience more than one island during their trip to the Caribbean, Anguilla and St. Barts are one of the best destination combinations available.  The islands are both so scenic and cultured, yet completely different in feel.  Travel between the two is relatively easy as well.  I am already counting the days until I can go back and experience Caribbean beauty and luxury at its finest.
